Storm Breaks Into Wichita's Top 5 All-Time Biggest Snowstorms (Updated)

Updated 5:01pm:

At 4:56pm the National Weather Service reports the snow is winding down in the Wichita area. They recorded 14.2 inches of snow as of 4:40 pm, just shy of the all-time record of 15 inches.

Updated 4:15 pm:

As of 3:45pm, the National Weather Service reports Wichita is in the number two all-time multi-day snowstorm, with 14.0 inches being recorded.

What The City Is Doing About All This Snow

Snowy conditions on West 13th Street and across Wichita Thursday. Drivers were asked to stay home and off the roads if at all possible.

Wichita city officials held a news conference Thursday morning to give an update on the conditions in the midst of one of the city’s worst snow storms.

The Wichita area has already received more than 10 inches of snow over the past two days, causing drifts, vehicle accidents, delays and school closings.

Warm Temps Should Continue For A Bit

Winds across southern Kansas are coming from the south and bringing continued warm temperatures through the middle of the week. However, a weak cold front arrives Wednesday night with isolated showers and a slight chance of a few thunderstorms.

As the front passes to the east, it will pull slightly cooler weather down from the north. Daytime highs on Thursday and Friday will be about 7-10 degrees cooler from earlier in the week.

An early look at the weekend shows a second cold front arriving on Saturday, so a few showers are likely both days.
