Wichita City Council Approves Rate Increases, New Model For Century II

The City council Tuesday voted to approve a new rate model and rental increases at Century II.

Rental rates have not changed at Century II since 2000.

Under the proposal changes, the performing arts and events center will go from a period rental model to a day rate model.

A 2 percent rate increase will go into effect in January of 2015.

Currently Century II rents for 6 hour periods in the concert hall and on a day rate for the expo halls.

Hawker Beechcraft Announces Sale To Chinese Firm

Aircraft maker Hawker Beechcraft announced Monday that it had reached a $1.79 billion “exclusivity agreement” with a Chinese aerospace manufacturer for the sale of its business jet and general aviation operations.

Under the agreement Beijing-based aerospace manufacturer Superior Aviation Beijing will buy Hawker Beechcraft and make payments over the next six weeks to support ongoing operations until the deal is finalized.

The sale does not include Hawker Beechcraft Defense Company, which will remain a separate entity.

Officials Promote Kansas Aviation Industry At English Air Show

Kansas officials are in England this week promoting the state's aviation industry.

Senator Jerry Moran, Governor Sam Brownback and Kansas Commerce Secretary Pat George will be discussing Kansas aviation at the Farnborough International Airshow near London.

Executives from Wichita's Spirit AeroSystems, Hawker Beechcraft, Cessna Aircraft, Boeing, Airbus and Bombardier also will be there.

Brownback says the Kansas delegation is working to promote current companies and recruit more companies to Wichita.

Hawker Beechcraft In Talks With Potential Buyers

 

Aircraft maker Hawker Beechcraft is narrowing in on potential buyers as part of its plan to emerge from bankruptcy reorganization. 

The company disclosed in court documents that along with its investment banker, Hawker Beechcraft developed a list of potential buyers and investors over several months ahead of its May 3rd filing for Chapter 11.

Airbus To Expand, Looks To Wichita For Suppliers

Kansas officials and Airbus Americas Chair Allan McArtor Tuesday announced a partnership intended to grow the state’s aviation industry by increasing contact with local aircraft suppliers.

In a conference call with reporters Airbus’ Allan McArtor along with Senator Jerry Moran and representatives from the City of Wichita announced the Air Capital Supplier Summit will be held in the city later this summer.

McArtor said Airbus currently supports about 210,000 manufacturing jobs in the US and spends about $12 billion dollars a year on components and services.

KS Orgs Receive Grant To Document Boeing’s Legacy In Wichita

The Kansas Humanities Council has received an award from the Library of Congress to document Boeing’s legacy in Wichita through an oral history project.

The Kansas Humanities Council was one of five recipients of the Archie Green Fellowship through the American Folk Life Center.
