Help us plant 100 Trees this Spring.
We need to raise $10,000 to buy trees and get them in the ground this spring. Help us keep Wichita cool!
Free Tree distributions are one of a number of activities ICT Trees sponsors to publicize the value and benefit of trees but is one of the most costly.
ICT Trees strategically targets free tree distributions to core neighborhoods in or near Wichita’s NASA designated “urban heat islands.” Urban heat islands are areas in the city where the built environment — streets, parking lots, buildings — and loss of green space and tree canopy cause temperatures significantly greater than other parts of Wichita. Significantly increasing the number of trees in or near these heat islands can reduce temperatures in surrounding neighborhoods as much as 8 to 12 degrees.
ICT Trees is a 501c3 and all donations are tax deductible.

Evil Dead In Concert, a live-to-film experience that thrills and chills, resurrects Sam Raimi’s beloved cult classic in a way audiences have never seen before — in this lifetime.
The legendary film will be screened in a newly restored format and brought to life on stage while a live ensemble performs the entire revamped original musical score from composer Joe LoDuca.
LoDuca began his film career by composing this iconic score for director Sam Raimi, and went on to win multiple Emmys for his scoring work. Most recently, Joe released a reimagining and re-recording of the original Evil Dead score called “Evil Dead: A Nightmare Reimagined,” where he re-recorded and expanded on the original musical themes of the movie.
Evil Dead follows five college students on vacation in an isolated cabin in the woods, where they unwittingly release absolute evil into the world and have to fight to survive. This indie classic is known as one of the most significant cult horror films of all time, and has generated a massive following worldwide since its release.

AMADEUS is a compelling, high-spirited and wrenching tale of how actual greatness and the desire for greatness can be equally destructive. This is the story of two 18th century composers – Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Antonio Salieri.
What – you’ve never heard of Salieri? . . . In every human being who has felt lesser or unimportant in the presence of a greater talent, there lives a Salieri.
This highly theatrical and unforgettable tale about obsession, jealousy and the price of fame is presented in partnership with Wichita State University Opera Theater.
Shaffer’s 1979 masterpiece is a fictionalized story of the boy-genius Mozart and his musical contemporary, the Court Composer Antonio Salieri. Narrated by Salieri (the self-confessed “Patron Saint of Mediocrities”) whose life’s work is threatened by his jealousy of Mozart’s brilliance, this drama examines Salieri’s tortured, obsessive battle with the Creator, as the older composer rages against a God who has bestowed the greatest gifts to someone else.

Wichitans desired to be modern since the City’s beginning in 1870. The Modern era had been evolving for a century at that time and it would take another 100 years before Wichita achieved a “modern” look. World War II (1939-1945) greatly disrupted development in design.
Over the next two decades, postwar prosperity propelled design of the modern era to its zenith. By that time, Wichita’s modernization was most apparent in its new urban 1969 skyline, which remains in place today.
In the 1950s and 1960s, modern design from architecture to fashions and furnishings became familiar as people followed popular trends replacing old with new. Visual art and advertising led the way for the modern look - which by the 1960s, people referred to as “Mod.” This new look coincided with changes as society became more pluralistic and increasingly aware of its diversity. The post-war baby boom gave rise to a prominent youth culture creating new markets. New technology improving the ability to travel and share information led to wide acceptance of modern style.
This modern sensibility cast a popular and unifying mindset. This era featured non-representational abstract design to create engaging effects rather than portray objects or scenes. The effects were both dazzling and confusing, challenging everyone’s perception of reality. Our visual world was forever changed.
(This exhibition follows (and is directly patterned after) the Museum’s previous exhibit Art Deco on the Plains. It takes the timeline forward to explore modern design experienced locally in the 1950s and 1960s. The exhibition is a feature of the Lois Kay Walls Local Visual Art History Series.)
On view through 2025 in the Slawson Gallery, 4th floor.

The urge to create or possess a visual representation of a specific person – a portrait – is present throughout history. Portraits are created for many reasons: from sentimental to celebratory, for public or private viewing, as memorials, and as icons. .
Until the introduction of photography in the 1840s, portraits were rendered by artists in both two and three-dimensional mediums such as paintings and sculptures.
The Museum’s collection includes a variety of portraits, most of which depict local people. In this exhibition, we learn of portraiture and the people portrayed.
On view during regular Museum hours
March 2025 - March 2026
