Airmen Of Note Memorial Day, Ron Carter, Jazz Greats & New Releases

Monday 5.29.17

It’s a Memorial Day tradition as Night Train steps aside to present two special hours of live music featuring the Airmen of Note, the premier jazz ensemble of the United States Air Force. In hour one, the Airmen are joined by trombonist Steve Turre, and in hour two their special guest is pianist Cyrus Chestnut.

Tuesday 5.30.17

Night Train highlights some jazz greats – both singers and instrumentalists - including Miles Davis, Horace Silver, Cannonball Adderley, Betty Carter, and Carmen McRae, plus the duos of Charlie Haden with Jim Hall, Charlie Haden with Keith Jarrett, and Jimmy Smith with Wes Montgomery.

Wednesday 5.31.17

Night Train highlights music from May featured artist Ron Carter’s favorite album with Miles Davis; and marks birthdays of drummers Louis Hayes (including music from his new album in tribute to Horace Silver) and Albert ‘Tootie’ Heath, saxophonists Red Holloway and Greg Abate, and bassist Christian McBride (including a live performance from the McBride Trio at the Savannah Music Festival in hour two of the show).

Thursday 6.1.17

Night Train highlights jazz trios, including a few more with Ron Carter (his Golden Striker Trio, the Steve Kuhn Trio, the Great Jazz Trio and the Thrasher Dream Trio) as we wrap up our 80th birthday salute to the acclaimed bassist. Other trios in store tonight include Keith Jarrett’s ‘Standards Trio,’ the Chick Corea Trio (from the new album, The Musician), Cedar Walton, the new Bob Dorough Trio live set, Horace Parlan’s Us Three, the Organic Trio, and the Organik Vibe Trio.
