Plus the Ted Rosenthal Trio’s remarkable reinvention of “Rhapsody in Blue,” Jane Ira Bloom’s surprising ballad project Sixteen Sunsets, and the jazz side of Ray Charles

Night Train marks birthdays of guitarist Mason Razavi, trumpeter Ryan Kisor and jazz legend Herbie Hancock (including a special in hour two of the show focusing on his early days as both a leader and sideman on the Blue Note label). Plus music from April featured artist (and this year’s Jazz Appreciation Month honoree) Benny Carter, and new music from the Danny Green Trio, the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra, and saxophonist Kirsten Edkins.

Night Train highlights some Grammy-winning music from April featured artist Benny Carter; celebrates birthdays of soul jazz tenor man Gene Ammons and trombonist Steve Davis; and showcases new releases from guitarist and former Dizzy Gillespie band member Ed Cherry, and percussionist Joe Chambers.
