B3 Blues & Soul Jazz, Remembering Lonnie Brooks, James Cotton & Chuck Berry, and Concert Previews

April 21/23

Crossroads continues its month-long tribute to James Cotton, Lonnie Brooks and Chuck Berry, who all recently passed away. There’s music from Cotton from both the mid ’70s and one of his last albums, a classic from Berry, and Brooks’ album with two other Texas blues masters, Long John Hunter and Phillip Walker. Plus concert previews and more B3 Blues for Jazz Appreciation Month, including music from Adrienne Fenemor, Johnny Hammond Smith, and a special in hour two about one of the legends of jazz organ and pioneer of soul jazz, Jimmy Smith.

Chris Heim produces and hosts Global Village, a nationally and internationally distributed world music show; the nightly jazz show Night Train, and Crossroads, KMUW’s twice-weekly blues and R&B show. Chris is also a critic and freelance writer whose work has appeared in the Chicago Tribune, Utne, Global Rhythm, Dirty Linen, and Option, among others.
