Big Stars, Big Families And Bright Eyes

Thursday, September 1

Recorded over four days in early 1987, Bring the Family found John Hiatt in the company of Ry Cooder, Nick Lowe and Jim Keltner. The four created what became Hiatt’s breakthrough album and set the Indiana native on a three-decade path of critical acclaim and increased commercial fortunes. We’ll hear selections from that release as well as music from Carolina, the latest release by Spain.

Friday, September 2

It’s our New Month, New Music show with selections from Wilco’s latest, Schmilco plus music from Teenage Fanclub, Big Star and others. 

Saturday, September 3

Released in 2002, Lifted or The Story is in the Soil, Keep Your Ear to the Ground became the breakthrough release for Bright Eyes. The record was also later listed as one of the best albums of the decade by a variety of critics. Listen for selections from that release as well as new music from Faun Fables. 

Monday, September 5

It’s our annual Labor Day special with selections about the working life from Mick Jagger, REM, The Replacements and many more. 

Tuesday, September 6

Released in 1988, Out of the Silent Planet was the sophomore release from King’s X. We’ll hear selections from that release on this episode of the show as well as music from Profit, the latest release from The Jelly Jam, the band featuring King’s X guitarist Ty Tabor.

Wednesday, September 7

Sargent Place is the 2014 release from the band Spain. We’ll hear selections from that recording on this episode of the show as well as music from Thurston Moore’s 2014 effort, The Best Day

Thursday, September 8

We’ll hear selections from Phantom Power, the 1998 release from Canada’s The Tragically Hip as well as music from Arcade Fire’s 2004 effort, Funeral.
