Recorded over four days in early 1987, Bring the Family found John Hiatt in the company of Ry Cooder, Nick Lowe and Jim Keltner. The four created what became Hiatt’s breakthrough album and set the Indiana native on a three-decade path of critical acclaim and increased commercial fortunes. We’ll hear selections from that release as well as music from Carolina, the latest release by Spain.

Released in 2002, Lifted or The Story is in the Soil, Keep Your Ear to the Ground became the breakthrough release for Bright Eyes. Sargent Place is the 2014 release from the band Spain. We’ll hear selections from that recording on this episode of the show as well as music from Thurston Moore’s 2014 effort, The Best Day.

We’ll hear selections from Phantom Power, the 1998 release from Canada’s The Tragically Hip as well as music from Arcade Fire’s 2004 effort, Funeral.
