Tuesday, December 29

Wednesday, December 30

Highlights in this visit to the Global Village include a classic from Toots & the Maytals, modern Chilean cumbia group Chico Trujillo, Italian neo-folk ensemble Newpoli, Taj Mahal with the Culture Musical Club of Zanzibar, Femi Kuti, the son of Afrobeat legend, Fela, and Zimbabwe’s Thomas Mapfumo (the subject of one of Global Village’s favorite music books of 2015).

  Thursday, December 31

Global Village highlights music from some Juno Award winners (the ‘Canadian grammys’)– including Latin jazz saxophonist Jane Bunnett, Balkan guitarist Lubo Alexandrov, South African-born singer Lorraine Klaasen, and Indo-Canadian singer Kiran Ahluwalia. Plus the Arabic jazz group Nashaz, and South Africa’s Chris McGregor with his Castle Lager Big Band.

Friday, January 1

Normally this is New Month/New Music time in the Global Village, but it’s an annual tradition to start the new year featuring the Best of 2015 and to devote the first New Month/New Music show of the new year to a countdown of our top ten favorite releases of the past year. It’s another impressive and eclectic mix of artists and styles. Tune in to hear what caught our ear this year and what album made number one on the list.
