Brownback Visits Kansas Universities

Governor Sam Brownback will be visiting universities in Kansas on Monday.

Eileen Hawley, a Brownback spokesperson, says he’ll be meeting with university officials and talking about the importance of higher education in the state.

"The universities help drive the economy," Hawley says. "They provide a highly skilled work force and they create the next generations of teachers, doctors and business people so its really important for us to invest and have a good vision for higher education in Kansas. "

The governor will make stops at Pittsburg State University, as well as Emporia State, Kansas State and Wichita State.

Brownback will also be praising a bill passed by the Legislature that reverses some university funding cuts that were passed last year.

Browback's likely opponent this fall in the race for governor is Paul Davis, from Lawrence, who is the top Democrat in the Kansas House.

Press events are scheduled at the following times for each location:

9:25 a.m. Pittsburg State University, Kansas Technology Center

11:20 a.m. Emporia State University, Skyline Dining Room

2 p.m. Wichita State University, Marcus Welcome Center

4 p.m. Kansas State University
