Kansas’ largest personal computer manufacturer has pledged a gift valued at $2.5 million to provide computers, monitors and five years of desktop support for the engineering department at Wichita State University.
Cybertron International announced the gift at its headquarters in south Wichita. The company, which makes computers, was founded in 1997 by three Wichita State alumni. The donation will benefit the university’s Experiential Engineering Building, which is now under construction on the east side of the school as part of the Innovation Campus.
Ahmed Aziz, a co-founder of Cybertron and the current CEO, says the company is hoping to set a good example for companies in Wichita to support the vision of WSU’s current administration.
“The other thing that I’m hoping to send out as kind of a general message is what people can do when we open our minds and put all of the labels and backgrounds aside," Aziz says. "Great things can happen."
The computers Cybertron donates to Wichita State will be branded with WSU logos and colors. The university will recognize Cybertron’s donation by placing the company’s name on one of the 25 labs in the new engineering building.
