Eric Dolphy, Eric Reed, Milt Hinton Birthdays + Chick's 75th

Monday 6.20.16

Night Train continues the June Chick Corea 75th birthday feature with music from his double-Grammy winning album, Trilogy, and from the Rendezvous in New York set that captured a series of performances he did with musician friends to mark his 60th birthday.  It’s also the birthday of clarinet and saxophone player Eric Dolphy and Night Train highlights music from him in hour one of the show. In hour two it’s a special about the music Dolphy did in the last year of his life (including the classic Out to Lunch album). Plus new music from “Jersey Cat” Freddie Hendrix and, from the Canadian prairies, the Hutchinson Andrew Trio.

Tuesday 6.21.16

Lots of great jazz piano tonight on the Night Train – including June featured artist Chick Corea with Herbie Hancock, birthday artist Eric Reed (with Cyrus Chestnut and in a special concert performance from the Savannah Music Festival in hour two of the show), and two pianists with new albums – Bill Heid (with Three More Sounds on a new album in tribute to pianist McCoy Tyner) and Bill O’Connell with his Latin Jazz All-Stars.

Wednesday 6.22.16

Night Train highlights music from both legendary and contemporary pianists this evening – including June featured artist Chick Corea with his Akoustic Quartet, Red Garland, McCoy Tyner, Bill Evans, Keithy Jarrett, Cyrus Chestnut, Eliane Elias, and Mose Allison.

Thursday 6.23.16

Night Train marks birthdays of keyboardist Ben Paterson, saxophonist Donald Harrison, and legendary bassist Milt Hinton (including a Jazz Profiles Hinton special in hour two of the show). Plus more from June featured artist Chick Corea and new music from the Organik Vibe Trio.
