Gov. Sam Brownback today appointed the first female judge to the 9th District Court covering McPherson and Harvey counties in Kansas.
The district courts serve as the trial courts for the state.
Brownback says he's pleased to appoint Marilyn Wilder to the 9th District Court. The governor says her experience makes her an excellent choice to serve the residents of McPherson and Harvey counties.
Wilder says she's honored and humbled to be appointed by the governor. As judge, the Independent from Hesston says she'll oversee various cases brought to the court.
"So I will hear criminal cases, domestic cases, civil cases and a wide range of other legal matters," she says.
Wilder is currently in private practice with Adrian & Pankratz, P.A. in Newton. She's a graduate of the Indiana University School of Law and Taylor University in Indiana.
The 105 counties in Kansas are organized into 31 Judicial Districts. Wilder fills a vacancy created by the retirement of Chief Judge Richard Walker, who served the 9th District Court for 30 years.
