The Greatest Gift is a collection outtakes, mixes and demos surrounding Sufjan Stevens’ acclaimed Carrie and Lowell album. Listen for selections from that as well as White Boy and the Average Rat Band’s 1979 self-titled debut, which has just been reissued.

Listen for selections from Courtney Barnett’s Sometimes I Sit and Think, And Sometimes I Just Sit as well as Kurt Vile’s 2013 album Walkin’ on a Pretty Daze.

Wednesday, November 29

Memory of a Cut Off Head is the latest from OCS (Oh Sees). We’ll hear selections from that as well as from Lou Reed’s Rock ‘n’ Roll Animal.

Thursday, November 30

We preview our December feature on progressive rock with selections from the Levin Brothers, Liquid Tension Experiment and King Crimson, all featuring bassist and Chapman Stick player Tony Levin.

When Robert Fripp brought together Bill Bruford, Tony Levin and Adrian Belew together as a band in the early 1980s, his intention was to call the band Discipline. Those plans changed and what emerged instead was a new King Crimson album titled Discipline. We’ll hear from that 1981 release on this episode plus selections from the band’s Tony Levin and Bill Bruford with their own band, Bruford Levin Upper Extremities, featuring Chris Botti and David Torn.
