Hesston College resumed classes today after being locked down for just over an hour Thursday after a mass shooting at Excel Industries four blocks away.

Rachel McMaster, spokeswoman for Hesston College, says the college has a close partnership with Excel. Both the founder and the business' current owners, his sons, are Hesston graduates. McMaster says many on campus were affected by yesterday events. Counselors were made available for students. She says classes and other activities are in session today.

"Faculty and coaches have been encouraged to talk to students as needed, maybe to just process feelings a little bit at the beginning of classes," McMaster says. "I know some faculty members have postponed tests to give students a little more time for them to deal with their emotions, but classes are continuing on as normal."

Nearly 200 attended a vigil at the college Thursday night. A community vigil is planned for this weekend.
