Investigators Say Staff At Andover Nursing Home Physically And Verbally Abused Residents

Victoria Falls nursing home in Andover is facing a heavy fine from The Kansas Department for Aging and Disability Services for abuse and neglect of residents. State investigators say they substantiated allegations that staff at Victoria Falls were both physically and verbally abusive to residents.

The investigators from the federal agency identified one resident who was repeatedly abused verbally and physically by at least four staff members. Those employees worked in all four units at Victoria Falls, meaning all 63 of the facility’s residents were in jeopardy of being abused. Also, the facility was cited for failure to self-report complaints of abuse and neglect, and to protect residents during such investigations.

Bryan Thompson and Kansas Public Radio were unable to reach the management of the nursing home for comment. Federal authorities have fined Victoria Falls more than $155,000 plus $1,000 a day from April 13 until the facility is back in full compliance.
