Latin Jazz, Monday Night @ The Movies, Von Freeman, Duke Robillard & More

Night Train kicks off the October Latin Jazz feature and joins in with Global Village and Strange Currency for a ‘Monday Night at the Movies’ feature throughout the month highlighting film-related music, and marks birthdays of two NEA Jazz Masters – saxophonist Von Freeman and jazz impresario George Wein.

Tuesday 10.4.16

Night Train marks birthdays of bassists Eddie Gomez, Steve Swallow and Robert Hurst, vocalist Leon Thomas, and bluesman Duke Robillard. Plus more music for the October Latin Jazz feature – including Kenny Dorham’s classic Afro-Cuban and the new album from Brazilian singer Kenia. And new music from singers Kevin Mahogany and Freddy Cole, guitarists John Scofield and Hristo Vitchev, and the Music Soup Organ Trio.

Chris Heim produces and hosts Global Village, a nationally and internationally distributed world music show; the nightly jazz show Night Train, and Crossroads, KMUW’s twice-weekly blues and R&B show. Chris is also a critic and freelance writer whose work has appeared in the Chicago Tribune, Utne, Global Rhythm, Dirty Linen, and Option, among others.
