Missing Out On Nothing, Looking For A Trace Of Green Grass

Wednesday, November 11

We honor Veterans Day with selections from Linda Thompson, John Prine, Zac Brown Band and more.

Thursday, November 12

Missing Out On Nothing is the latest release from Kansas band Twin Cities; we’ll hear selections from that recording as well as from Beat Happening’s Look Around and new singles from The Pents, Kristoff, Waltz, and Jenny Wood & The Femmeline.

Friday, November 13

Released in 1995 Trace is the debut album from Son Volt, the band featuring former Uncle Tupelo leader Jay Farrar. The record became an instant classic and solidified Farrar’s reputation as one of the best songwriters of his generation. The record has just been reissued in expanded form, including a live show from early 1996 recorded at the legendary Bottom Line in New York City. We’ll hear selections from that release as well as music from Tomorrow The Green Grass, an equally acclaimed album from the Minnesota band The Jayhawks.

Saturday, November 14

The Velvet Underground is most closely associated with New York City but in late 1969 the group did an extensive run of dates in Northern California, most notably at the club The Matrix. Performances from two of those nights are captured in a new boxed set, titled The Complete Matrix Tapes. We’ll hear selections from that four-hour-plus collection as well as music from Maserati’s Pyramid of the Sun release.

Monday, November 16

Rocket From The Tombs was only active in its homebase of Cleveland, Ohio for one year—from 1974 to 1975—but in that short time the band made a lasting impression on the American music scene. Since reuniting in 2003 the group has issued several records including the brand-new Black Record. We’ll hear selections from that album on this episode of the show as well as music from Wreckless Eric.

Tuesday, November 17

Listen for selections from the latest by the dark, country-influenced band The Yawpers as well as selections from the latest, self-titled release by Turnpike Troubadours.
