Night Train marks birthdays of pianist Bill Anschell and singer Al Jarreau, and continues the March Women’s History Month Feature with music from harpist Dorothy Ashby, singers Deborah Brown, Nnenna Freelon and Cecile McLorin Salvant, and pianists Marian McPartland, Jessica Williams, and Leslie Pintchik. Plus new music from the ‘Standards Trio’ of Keith Jarrett, Gary Peacock and Jack DeJohnette, soul jazz organist Caesar Frazier, pianists Alfredo Rodriguez and Ben Paterson, and guitarist Hristo Vitchev.

Night Train marks birthdays of legendary jazz drummer Roy Haynes, and trumpeters Terence Blanchard and Blue Mitchell. The March Women’s History Month Feature also continues with singers Rachelle Ferrell, Sarah Vaughan and Cassandra Wills, organist Shirley Scott, and pianist Marian McPartland. And there’s new music from guitarists Corey Christiansen and Pat Martino, saxophonists Scott Hamilton and Peter Sommer, and pianist George Kahn.

Wednesday 3.14.18

Night Train continues the March Women’s History Month feature with birthday salutes to soul jazz organist Shirley Scott (including a special featuring her music in hour two of the show) and singer Vanessa Rubin. It is also the birthday today of Quincey Jones (we’ll hear some early big band music from him – arranged by Melba Liston) and drummer Akira Tana (who has a new Brazilian jazz release just out). And there’s new music from organist Dr. Lonnie Smith and singer Kate McGarry.

Thursday 3.15.18

Night Train marks the 80th birthday of jazz sax great Charles Lloyd with music from his more recent releases in hour one, and a special devoted to his early years when he was a favorite with ‘60s rock listeners in hour two of the show. Also remembering trad jazz saxophonist Bob Wilber and trumpeter Jimmy McPartland for their birthdays, and featuring new music from the Chick Corea + Steve Gadd Band, Kevin Connor and Swing 3PO, New Faces, and Jason Marsalis & the 21st Century Trad Band.
