The MSNBC talk show Morning Joe was broadcast live from Wichita State University on Tuesday. It featured an interview with Charles and David Koch of Koch Industries in Wichita.
Mika Brzezinski and Joe Scarborough of MSNBC’s Morning Joe were live from Shocker Hall at Wichita State University on Tuesday morning, broadcasting a recent interview with billionaires Charles and David Koch of Koch Industries.
The brothers identify as Libertarians and speak out against overreaching federal regulations and “corporate welfare.”
During the interview, Charles Koch spoke about drug decriminalization. He said the United States spends too much money locking up drug offenders.
“Somebody goes to jail, and they get out and no one will hire them. And so what do they do? The only way they can survive is to go back to crime,” Koch said. “We’ve got to change that if we want to break this cycle of poverty and dependency.”
Charles Koch also spoke about income inequality. When asked what could be done about the rich getting richer and the poor getting poorer, he mentioned limiting “poverty inducing regulations,” and an educational system “that isn’t providing the disadvantaged with the values and skills required for success.”
“A big part of someone’s education is learning to work,” Koch said.
Charles Koch was eventually joined by his brother David for their first-ever joint interview. They talked about their company’s business model, which favors moral integrity in its hiring practices. They also spoke about growing up in Wichita and the lessons they learned from their father Fred, who started Koch Industries in the 1940s.
