Remembering Ivory John, The Best Of 2015 & Some Titles We Missed

January 22/24

Crossroads pays tribute to Texas bluesman Long John Hunter, who passed away earlier this month, and remembers some artists who passed away last year, including Jeff Golub and Smokin’ Joe Kubek.

Plus more of the Best of 2015, the Crossroads January feature – including show favorites and Blues Music Awards nominees Shemekia Copeland, Sugaray Rayford, Jimmy Burns and John Ginty; Grammy Roots Gospel nominees the Fairfield Four; a James Brown recording that will be inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame this year; and two top notch recordings that we overlooked, but should have been on the Crossroads Best of 2015 list: Wee Willie Walker’s classic soul set, If Nothing Ever Changes, and the Crescent City inspired album Go Go Juice from Jon Cleary.

Chris Heim produces and hosts Global Village, a nationally and internationally distributed world music show; the nightly jazz show Night Train, and Crossroads, KMUW’s twice-weekly blues and R&B show. Chris is also a critic and freelance writer whose work has appeared in the Chicago Tribune, Utne, Global Rhythm, Dirty Linen, and Option, among others.
