Two Kansas State University professors haveauthored a report that finds most universities are not offering students enough help in understanding the financial burdens that student loans pose.
Sonya Britt and Dottie Durband's report, released this week, outlines different ways to educate students, ranging from classroom-based programs to individual counseling.
It also identified a need for financial education at universities, noting that many universities do not have a program.
Britt says financial issues are one of the top reasons that students drop out of college.
She adds most incoming college students haven't benefited from financial literacy courses in high school and they lack basic money management skills.
The report is called "Financial Literacy in Higher Education: The Most Successful Models and Methods for Gaining Traction."
