Sedgwick County and City of Wichita officials are scheduled to meet Tuesday to discuss plans for a joint law enforcement training center.
County commissioners voted 3-2 on Wednesday to pursue a meeting with the city to go over four proposals and the evaluation process.
The county’s Bid Board is recommending that the training facility be built on Wichita State University’s Innovation Campus. The estimated cost would be $9.5 million dollars.
The commissioners delayed a final vote so they could meet with city officials on the broader issue of public safety partnerships, including fire training. The two sides have been trying to come to terms on a new training facility for nearly two decades because the current location is aging and not meeting needs.
The building on West 37th Street North is a former elementary school and has been used as a law enforcement training center for more than 30 years.
The meeting will take place at 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday, May 17, in the City Council's board room at City Hall, 455 N. Main.
