Son Seals Birthday Salute, Wynonie Harris Centennial Birthday Celebration & More

August 14/16

Crossroads marks the birthday of Son Seals, one of the key figures to emerge from the ‘70s blues scene in Chicago who was known for his rough edged and powerful style.

Plus music from August featured artist, the R&B shouter Wynonie Harris – including one of his earliest hits, a classic, and a blues battle with Big Joe Turner.

Also music from artists with regional concerts in the coming week and new music from Robin Trower, Galactic, Gregg Allman, Scott Ellison, and Debbie Davies.

Chris Heim produces and hosts Global Village, a nationally and internationally distributed world music show; the nightly jazz show Night Train, and Crossroads, KMUW’s twice-weekly blues and R&B show. Chris is also a critic and freelance writer whose work has appeared in the Chicago Tribune, Utne, Global Rhythm, Dirty Linen, and Option, among others.
