Sparks, Turkeys And Those Old 88s

Wednesday, November 18

Taking its name from the Italian version of George A. Romero’s Dawn Of The Dead, Zombi has long held a special place in the hearts of music lovers who also love film scores. The band’s synth-heavy sound recalls the music of Italian horror masters Goblin and filmmaker John Carpenter’s unique scores. We’ll hear selections from that record as well from Kimono My House, the 1974 album from Sparks.

Thursday, November 19

After spending several years leading Zappa Plays Zappa, a tribute to the music of his late father, Frank Zappa, guitarist and composer Dweezil Zappa returns with his best and most cohesive solo album in more than 20 years: Via Zammata. The album features Zappa performing in a variety of styles with a crack band and guests such as actor John Malkovich. We’ll hear selections from that release on this episode of the show as well as music from the soundtrack to Roxy: The Movie, featuring long-lost performances from the elder Zappa and his band.
