Stevie Wonder Month, Commodore Records Week + Big Joe Turner & Fats Waller Birthdays

Night Train continues its month-long salute to Stevie Wonder and kicks off a week-long celebration of the birthday of Commodore Records founder Milt Gabler, including a four part Commodore Records Story special airing each night this week. Plus birthdays of Kansas City shouter Big Joe Turner and vibes player Christian Tamburr, and new music from Cory Weeds and Delfeayo Marsalis.

Night Train marks birthdays of bassist Kyle Eastwood, saxophonist Sonny Fortune and pianist Allen Farnham; and continues with more jazz versions of songs from May featured artist Stevie Wonder, and a week-long salute to Commodore Records founder Milt Gabler for his birthday.

Wednesday 5.20.15

Night Train highlights more music from May featured artist Stevie Wonder (this time with a cover of his song from blues legend B.B. King, who will be remembered in a special show this week on Crossroads); continues with Commodore Records Week for producer and label founder Milt Gabler, who was born on this date; and also celebrates birthdays of the one and only jazz bagpiper, Rufus Harley, and new-tango bandoneon player Dino Saluzzi.

Thursday 5.21.15

Night Train wraps up its week-long salute to Commodore Records with more music from the label and the final part of the Commodore Records Story. Plus more for the May Stevie Wonder feature, music from B.B. King, birthday salutes to Fats Waller and Larance Marable, and new music from John Scofield, Joey Calderazzo and more.
