A survey released today found that Kansas Gov. Sam Brownback has the lowest job approval rating in the nation.

Between May and November, more than 75,000 registered voters across all 50 states were asked whether they approve or disapprove of their governor's job performance. Of those surveyed in Kansas, only 26 percent said they approve of Brownback's leadership. Brownback has been criticized for problems with the state's budget as well as cuts in education funding.

The governor with the next-lowest approval rating was Louisiana Republican Bobby Jindal at 35 percent. Massachusetts Gov. Charlie Baker, also a Republican, has the highest approval rating at 74 percent.

The survey found that the seven governors with the highest approval ratings are all Republican. Eight of the nine lowest ratings are also Republicans. Sample sizes varied, but each state's sample was weighed using U.S. Census data.

The survey was conducted by Morning Consult, a technology and media company. The margin of error in Kansas was +/- 3.7 percent.
