Wichita Public Schools is accepting nominations for the 2012-13 Distinguished Classroom Teacher Award to honor new and experienced teachers.

The Distinguished Classroom Teacher Award program recognizes outstanding teachers who affect the quality of education of more than 50,000 students in the Wichita school district. Awards are given in seven categories: new elementary teacher, new secondary teacher, primary teacher, intermediate, middle school and high school teacher and support teacher.

The recipients will be selected by a committee that includes teachers, school and district level administrators, the assistant superintendents of elementary and secondary schools and a member of the United Teachers of Wichita.

Mailed nominations must be postmarked no later than January 3. Hand-delivered nominations must be delivered by 4:45 pm on January 4 to the district office in downtown Wichita.

The awards are expected to be presented at a school board meeting in March.

The nomination form can be found here.
