The Firewatcher’s Daughter is the latest release from acclaimed singer-songwriter Brandi Carlile. It is her follow-up to the highly acclaimed 2012 album Bear Creek. We’ll hear selections from that as well as music from Whatever My Love, the latest from the Juliana Hatfield Three. Hatfield is perhaps best remembered for her work with 90s acts such as The Lemonheads, Blake Babies and others. This latest release captures the spirit of Hatfield’s earlier recordings while bringing her and her band firmly into this decade.
Tuesday March 3
German-born singer Nico first came to the attention of music lovers while part of Andy Warhol’s Factory scene. She recorded with the Velvet Underground and made several solo albums beginning in the 1970s. One of her most enduring and disturbing is 1974’s The End which features contributions from legendary producer Brian Eno as well as John Cale of the Velvet Underground. Listen for selections from that as well as music from Nico’s time with the Velvet Underground.
Wednesday March 4
Singer-songwriter James McMurtry is the son of American novelist Larry McMurtry (Lonesome Dove) and although he has inherited many of his father’s sensibilities for storytelling he remains—more than 25 years into his recording career—very much his own man. His latest release, Complicated Game is being hailed as his masterwork and further evidence that McMurtry is one of American music’s most underappreciated voices. We’ll hear selections from that as well as music from the latest recording by former Men At Work front man Colin Hay.
Thursday March 5
Among the many projects that late Grateful Dead frontman Jerry Garcia busied himself with was the short-lived act Legion of Mary. We’ll hear selections from that outfit’s late 1974 tour of the northwest captured on the 2013 release Garcia Live: Volume Three: Legion of Mary as well as from Four Way Street, the classic live album from Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young.

It’s our New Month, New Music feature with selections from Jessica Lea Mayfield and Seth Avett, Lilly Hiatt, Iron & Wine, and Led Zeppelin’s just reissued Physical Graffiti album.
Saturday March 7
Royal Blue is the new album from singer-songwriter Lilly Hiatt. The daughter of acclaimed American songwriting legend John Hiatt, the Austin-based musician has already earned comparisons to Lucinda Williams, Lydia Loveless and other treasured singer-songwriters. We’ll hear selections from Royal Blue as well as selections from Create Your Own Mythology, the newest record from New Orleans-based singer-songwriter Kristin Diable.
Monday March 9
Annette Peacock is a truly unique musician whose music leans toward the avant garde while remaining accessible for adventurous listeners. We’ll hear from her 1972 album I’m The One, featuring keyboard work from Paul Bley and sometimes David Bowie collaborator Mike Garson as well as music from Laurie Anderson’s classic 1982 album Big Science.
Tuesday March 10
Released in late 1995 Washing Machine remains something of a curiosity in the Sonic Youth discography—filled with some of the longest songs in the band’s recorded output, it was also hailed as one of the most “open” of the band’s recordings, finding the group sounding looser and more relaxed than on previous albums. We’ll hear selections from Washing Machine on this episode of the show as well as music from Thurston Moore’s album from the same year, Psychic Hearts.
