Wichita To Begin Installing Bike Lanes Under Master Plan

The city of Wichita will begin installing bike paths downtown this week as part of the 10-year Wichita Bicycle Master Plan. The installation will take place over the course of three weeks.

Scott Wadle, senior planner for the city, says the paths will be extended from where they currently end near I-135 to include downtown lanes of First and Second streets between Grove and Seneca.

"So it will effectively get you from the college hill area and the neighborhoods in that area all the way out to Delano through downtown," Wadle says.

Wadle says census data from recent years has shown an increase in the number of Wichitans use a bike to get to work.

At least one lane of traffic in the affected areas will be open during construction.
