Wichita, A Perfect World, A Brownout And Some Absolute Beginners

Masculin Féminin is the new boxed set from Blonde Redhead. The collection features the group’s first two albums, Blonde Redhead and La Mia Via Violenta, as well as early demos, singles, and radio performances we’ll hear selections from this box as well as music from Say Yes! a new tribute to acclaimed singer-songwriter, Elliott Smith.

Wednesday, October 12

Andy Timmons began his career as a member of the 1980s band Danger Danger. In later years he became musical director for Olivia Newton-John while maintaining a solo career. His latest release, Theme from A Perfect World (with the Andy Timmons Band), features his trademark melodic guitar work across a series of hook-driven instrumentals. We’ll hear selections from that release on this episode of the show as well as music from Nels Cline’s Lovers.

Thursday, October 13

Listen for selections from the new release by Shovels and Rope as well as songs from the album Wichita by Ronnie Glenn Williams. 

Friday, October 14

We’ll hear selections from Solid States, the first new music from The Posies since 2010 as well as music from The Travel Guide.

Saturday, October 15

Brownout Presents Brown Sabbath, Vol.2 is the new release from the Texas-based collective, Brownout Presents Brown Sabbath, a Latin-infused group that covers material from Black Sabbath’s early, classic era, replete with horns, Latin percussion and more. Listen for selections from that release as well as music by Santana from the most recent effort, IV.

Monday, October 17

David Bowie made several appearances in films but his music was also used extensively in many motion pictures. We’ll hear samples of his film-related material, including from the soundtrack to Julien Temple’s Absolute Beginners. Plus, selections from Frank Zappa’s forays into the cinema, including selections from the movie Baby Snakes

Tuesday, October 18

Listen for selections from the latest release by Drive-By Truckers, American Band plus music from Thalia Zedek’s Trust Not Those in Whom Without Some Touch Of Madness
