Wichita State University’s $7.2 M Parking Garage Moving Forward

wsu.edu, Nadya Faulx

Construction is expected to begin in December on Wichita State University’s first parking garage on campus.

Wichita State plans to build a multi-level parking garage, at the cost of $7.2 million, just south of the Rhatigan Student Center.

The pay-to-park garage would have about 450 spots to serve faculty, students and visitors to the campus.

University spokesman Lou Heldman says the new garage’s central location will be helpful considering the many activities happening at the student center.

"Sometimes, for important events, we’re forced to close faculty, staff and student spaces," Heldman says. "This will allow everybody to have much better parking opportunities near the Rhatigan."

The garage will be built on an existing lot that’s currently used by faculty and staff.

Heldman says the project will go out to bid in the next few weeks with a contract expected to be awarded at the end of November.

If all goes well, the new garage will open next July.
