Wichita State University will hold a ceremony Tuesday in memory of the 1970 plane crash involving the university's football team.
On Oct. 2, 1970, a plane carrying the WSU football team — along with administrators and fans — crashed in the Rocky Mountains. The crash killed 31 people, including 14 football players and the university's athletic director, Bert Katzenmeyer. Nine people survived.

A ceremony to commemorate the crash will begin at 9 a.m. at Wichita State's Memorial ‘70 site.
A wreath will be placed at the base of the memorial, followed by a dedicated time of remembrance.
The 18th and Hillside entrance to the university will be closed from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m.
Following the ceremony, there will be a reception at the Duerksen Fine Arts Center. The Shocker ‘70 Football Room in the Rhatigan Student Center will also be open.
