WSU Student Found Dead In Fairmount Towers Parking Lot

UPDATE, Aug. 10, at 10:59 a.m.: A man and woman were arrested and taken into custody on charges of first-degree murder Sunday in connection with the homicide.

A Wichita State University student was found dead in a campus parking lot on Saturday morning. KMUW’s Aileen LeBlanc reports that the investigation is still continuing.

Early on Saturday morning, a person passing by Hillside and 22nd Street North saw a man lying on the ground next to a car at a nearby parking lot.

Wichita State police were called and stated that they found a man who had sustained injuries to his arm and also had apparent gunshot wounds.

The man was taken to Wesley hospital where he was pronounced dead. The parking lot is adjacent to the Fairmount Towers student residence hall.

The campus is relatively empty as fall classes have not yet begun.

"We are deeply saddened by the tragic death this morning of a WSU student," Wichita State University President John Bardo said in a statement. "The University Police Department is working closely with the Wichita Police Department on the investigation. The student's name is being withheld pending notification of loved ones. The continued safety of our students, faculty, staff and guests is a top priority.”

There is no suspect yet in custody and police are asking for people with information to call 911 or Crime Stoppers at 316-267-2111.

The crime is being investigated as a homicide.
