Night Train wraps up the June Blue Note feature, including music from one of the label’s most adventurous artists – pianist and composer Andrew Hill, who was born on this date. In hour two of the show, it’s a special encore presentation of Piano Jazz with Andrew Hill as the featured guest. Night Train also kicks off a weeklong salute to the newly named 2015 NEA Jazz Masters with music from George Coleman and highlights new music from the Roberto Magris Septet and Chris Parker.

Night Train starts the week with a show devoted entirely to the June feature marking the 75th anniversary of Blue Note Records, one of the most respected labels in jazz history. In hour one, it’s music from label hitmaker Horace Silver, organists Jimmy Smith, Big John Patton and Larry Young, singers Van Morrison and Cassandra Wilson, and guitarist Kenny Burrell. Then in hour two a special about the music and history of Blue Note with producer Michael Cuscuna, who played a major role in the revival of the label in later years.
