KS Governor and AG Propose Human Trafficking Bill

Gov. Sam Brownback and Attorney General Derek Schmidt have proposed a bill that would strengthen the state's human trafficking statues, with an emphasis on protecting children from sexual exploitation. 

The bill they'll submit to the state legislature establishes a Human Trafficking Victim Assistance Fund to support trafficking survivors. Mandatory fines on people convicted of human trafficking and related sex crimes will pay for the fund. The bill also provides for special procedures for children who have been subjected to human trafficking.

New Law Will Help Create Job Opportunities For Disabled Kansans

Kansas Gov. Sam Brownback Tuesday signed into law a bill that will create jobs for Kansans with disabilities.

House Bill 2453 will give preference for state contracts to businesses that meet specific criteria, including employing at least 20 percent of full-time workers in Kansas with disabilities.

Companies must also do the majority of their business in Kansas and pay at least 75 percent of the total health insurance premium cost for their employees.
